After retiring as a player, Alfaro transitioned into coaching and has managed several teams in Argentina, including Arsenal de Sarandí, Rosario Central, and Huracán. He is known for his tactical acumen and emphasis on discipline and organization on the field.
Alfaro's most successful stint as a manager came with Boca Juniors, one of the most successful clubs in Argentine football. He led Boca Juniors to win the Argentine Primera División title in 2019 and also reached the final of the Copa Libertadores the same year.
